TOGETHER AGAINST HUNGER AND POVERTY - SOLIDARITY KITCHEN

Last March, we were hit by a state of emergency. We were trapped in our homes, nervous and angry at the curfew. Isolated like this, we all thought about some of our needs - we devoted ourselves to work on ourselves, we tried to adapt to the changed reality. However, it was even more difficult for those on the edge of existence in this period. 

A large number of people in Serbia are on the brink of existence every day - without a roof over their heads, the right to treatment, or a stable income. Their big concern is whether they will have anything to eat today. Fortunately, a group of young activists thought of individuals who need help, even without a pandemic, more than necessary.

These young humanitarians are thinking of expanding and creating points in other parts of the city as well. So far, they have inspired the launch of similar initiatives in Novi Sad (Kitchen of solidarity) and Subotica (A meal of solidarity). "We are open to help others to get organized, people from other cities also contact us. If there are other initiatives that would organize themselves, we would be happy to help them - in the form of advice, people or food.", he says Sara.

The solidarity kitchen is fully financed by donations - monetary and in the form of food, which can be supplied to the kitchens or directly to the users. In the country where half a million inhabitants do not even have the basic necessities of life mutual support is essential. Solidarity, not charity it is certainly a small but significant step towards a more equal society.
