Celebrating 100 women in architecture!

Over the past decade, the role of gender equality in architecture has gained importance. The reason for this is the practice that shows that within the profession, women remain underrepresented, underrepresented, and underpaid. In the latest publication of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), women's contribution to the built environment is rightly recognized and celebrated. The book "100 Women: Architects in Practice" is a rich, diverse and fascinating research that presents the work of outstanding female architects from around the world. The authors are multi-award-winning and leading figure in the world of architecture, Pratt University professor Harriet Harriss, who together with senior scholars and writers Naomi House and Monica Parrinder, as well as award-winning journalist and editor of the Dezeen architecture portal, Tom Ravenscroft, present the stories of 100 women who are currently leave their mark in the world of architecture.

The book focuses on leading female architects in practice from all over the world, and is also guided by geographical balance, in order to cover six continents, i.e. female authors from 79 countries, from Argentina to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between. In this regard, "different worlds, different forms of architecture and approaches related to place" that these architects apply in their practice are presented, through an insight into their personal profiles and inspiring visual representations. The authors claim that each of them has knowledge and talent, and that they deserve to become recognizable names in the world of architecture. It is therefore the intention of the publication to contribute to increasing their visibility by giving their contributions well-deserved recognition.

With a foreword by Alison Brooks, this highly anticipated book celebrates the most influential female architects of our time. Among them are winners of the RIBA Royal Gold Medal and many other international awards, such as Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects, Francine Houben of Mecanoo, Liz Diller, Farshid Moussavi, Anna Herringer, Momoyo Kaijima, Mariam Issoufou Kamara and Yasmeen Lari. In this selection, Iva Čukić was the representative of Serbia, her approach to the profession through the Ministry of Space organization, that is, the practices and work with the community that we nurture when shaping space according to the principles of social justice. 

"100 Women: Architects in Practice" is an essential book for architecture students and professionals, but also the general public, serving as an inspiring collection and reference, whether they are interested in improving the environment and the general good of society or for gender equality in this and other professions.

From January 1, 2024, the book will be available for purchase via the RIBA Books website, while a copy can now be reserved via the link https://www.ribabooks.com/. The first public presentation of the book is scheduled for January 23, 2024 at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, followed by promotions in New York, Johannesburg and Dubai.
