TIRED NEIGHBORHOOD INITIATIVE - JOINT ACTIONS OF BLOCKS 70 AND 70A
You probably know at least one person who lives in blocks and cultivates a block identity - he lives for his neighborhood and wouldn't live anywhere else. For those of us who live in other parts of the city, such a concept may be incomprehensible, however, for those who grew up in the blocks - life in New Belgrade is special and irreplaceable. What certainly connects us with the residents of Novobeograd is the desire to make our neighborhood the best possible place to live.
We lack space for walking, shade, even more parks and green areas. Motivated by similar needs, residents of blocks 70 and 70a launched a joint action. "We want it to be nice for all of us, for our children to be nice tomorrow. To live in a healthier environment with a nicer microclimate, to plant even more trees - to adapt our region to the needs of modern man." explains Davor , one of the 20 permanent members FOR blocks 70 and 70a.
Milica, Maja, Davor and Petar say that they recognized people's need to improve the quality of life. Through concrete actions, the network of enthusiasts and friends began to expand. That network currently includes around 500 people with 20 permanently active members. In 2020, this neighborhood initiative did a lot for its neighborhood and gathered a team that motivates each other with its enthusiasm. "Will is a contagious concept.", say from the association. In June 2020, in response to the planned construction of private garages and parking lots along Omladinskih brigada Street, Joint Action invited neighbors to sign a petition.
The reason for the petition was the planned felling of the line of linden trees, which evokes the fondest childhood memories for the residents of New Belgrade and provides shade and a pleasant place for a walk.. About 8000 signatures were collected and successfully prevented ecocide and investor urbanism that does not take into account the needs of citizens. "We are for a version of urbanism that is tailored to people. We are not against it, but we want to start a discussion about what sustainable urbanization means in the 21st century," he explains. Maya.
They are especially proud of environmental actions Clean up your neighborhood i Garbage for trees. Morning weekend action Clean up your neighborhood it was organized 10 times and a large number of tenants were encouraged to clean the driveway and yard in front of their building. After that, through a post on social networks, with a hashtag #pokupismece, their example motivates other neighbors to take care of the cleanliness of the blocks. The project that encouraged tenants to be even more environmentally responsible is the Garbage for Trees campaign. About thirty boxes were installed for recycling, disposal of cans, paper, glass caps and PET packaging. The action of planting 400 willow, sycamore and ash trees had a great response.
