NATIONAL HOUSING STRATEGY: REMARKS
From December 20, 2021 to January 10, 2022, a public hearing was held on the National Housing Strategy Proposal for the period from 2022 to 2032. After a four-year delay in adopting the Strategy and the complete closure of this process for the interested and expert public, the competent Ministry decided to open the public discussion during the holiday season.
We think this is hiding public policy from the public, an attempt to cover up numerous flaws in the document itself, which in no way responds to the growing needs of an increasing number of people in Serbia for adequate housing solutions.
The proposal of the National Housing Strategy is unambitious both in terms of the scope of the topics it deals with, as well as in terms of specific target values for a period of ten years, so it is full of formulations such as: "consider the possibilities" or "start the initiative". As the Movement for Housing Equality*, we appeal to the Government of the Republic of Serbia to cancel the Conclusion on the implementation of the public debate on the National Strategy Proposal for the period from 2022 to 2032 with the Action Plan for implementation for the period from 2022 to 2024, to adequately involve the public in broad consultations on solutions for the ubiquitous housing crisis, and to draft a new National Strategy Proposal based on the real situation and foundations that respect the right of everyone in Serbia to have adequate, safe and affordable housing.
