BIOSCOPES: RETURN OF THE WRITTEN OFF

In 2011, we started the action Cinemas: The return of the written off as a reaction to the collapse and privatization of fourteen Belgrade cinemas of the social enterprise Beograd film - Balkan, Kozara, Slavica, Voždovac, Zvezda, Odeon, Jadran, 20 Oktober, Kosmaj, Central, Avala, Jedinstvo, Drina and Partizan.

We directed our work in two directions: examining the potential of this huge amount of abandoned spaces, and pointing out the great damage caused to the cultural milieu of the city by this failed privatization. Belgrade film was sold at the beginning of 2007 at an auction for 730 million dinars, that is, about nine million euros, which damaged the state and small shareholders.

ODEON: GSP – GUARDIAN OF THE CITY'S CULTURAL HERITAGE

The first action was a tribute to the "Odeon" cinema - an action at the station of the City Transport Company, which is still called that closed cinema. Only GSP does not know yet, there is no more cinema - that was the message we pasted on the boards of the bus station as part of the action of GSP - the guardian of the city's cultural heritage.

BALKAN: BOULEVARD ZVEZDA OR CEMETERY OF BIOSKOP?

The "Balkan" cinema is one of the oldest movie theaters in Belgrade, it was closed in 2010. Today, under the ownership of the Saša Marcheta Foundation, it has been converted into a multi-purpose space for various cultural events. The action was based on the idea of Boulevard of Stars, i.e. the existing stars that were placed in honor of Yugoslav cinematographic greats - actor Danilo Bata Stojković, directors Aleksandar Saša Petrović, Živojin Pavlović and Krsto Škanata. A year after the action, we placed a marble memorial plaque on the facade of this cinema in memory of all the victims of the privatization of Belgrade Film.

GOATMAN: RIP

After the fire in May 2012 in which the former "Kozara" cinema burned down, we laid wreaths at the place of eternal rest in the Bezistan passage on Terazije. By lighting candles and observing a minute of silence, passers-by and interested citizens joined in delivering mail to the place of many young people. The causes of that fire are still a mystery. In the passage next to the Kozara cinema, we opened in 2012 Street gallery.

WHAT DID YOU WATCH IN BIOSCOPE AJDRAN?

Perhaps the most visible example of carelessness can be found in the very center of Belgrade - the Jadran cinema is now a cafe. In his honor, a TV program was broadcast in which fellow citizens share which films they saw in this cinema.

OCTOBER 20: NO SHOWS TODAY. COME YESTERDAY.

On the board where films were announced in front of the cinema "20. oktobar" we used the existing sign "DANAS" and added the rest to arrive at Today there are no performances, come yesterday.

SLAVICA WILL BE BACK!

We pasted the poster of the movie Slavica on the billboard of the cinema "Slavica" as a warning of the partisan superhero, that he will not tolerate the cinema not working. The action is called Slavica will return.

WHAT YOU WATCHED - YOU WATCHED

We marked the end of the 41st FEST in Belgrade with the action "What you watched, you watched. Cinemas are dead". On the plateau in front of the Sava Center, we placed 14 crosses with the names of cinemas destroyed by privatization. The FEST audience joined the action at the symbolic cemetery of Belgrade cinemas.
